Populus was tasked with the design and implementation, complete with capacity strengthening, and management of workflow and project plan for the delivery of HIV/Aids Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) services for the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The program included use, distribution, monitoring, and evaluation of the efficacy of internationally donated antiretrovirals (ARVs).
Populus completed this project in 2004.
At its peak, the system was operating in 135 sites. There were more than 400 system users who managed more than 384,000 patient encounters involving more than 64,000 individual mothers at various stages of pregnancy, delivery, and post-natal care. Typical visits included four (4) encounters per mother and two (2) encounters per live birth. It is estimated that the PMTCT program saved 22,000 incremental lives.*
